After getting through the warp, Darren made a beeline for Devin's house, carrying his gifts for him and Danielle in a small bag. Even though it was their birthday, he didn't look very enthusiastic, as usual. When he arrived at his destination, he looked up at the small house once more, then rang the doorbell.
Devin was just frosting the miniature chocolate cakes he had made for each of them when the doorbell rang. "Coming!" he exclaimed, rinising his hands in the sink before rushing to open the door. "Hello, Danie--Oh, it's you."
What a sight he was, though. Still wearing his white apron and hair-cloth thingy.
Darren stared at the strange sight in silence for a moment, then said simply, "Hello," and made his was inside. He never knew Devin had a maid fetish, but it wasn't his place to judge.
For his information, it was a plain white apron to keep food from his clothes, and the hair-cloth was for sanitary purposes, thank you very much!
"Just barge in, why don't you," Devin said, closing the door behind him. Well. It was their birthday. Maybe he should try being nice.
Keyword being "try."
"You can put the things in the living room and sit down. I'm finishing up the cakes. Do you want something to drink?" he asked as he returned to the kitchen.
Devin arched his brow, but just 'hmph'ed. Fine. If he didn't want a drink, fine. Can't even give him a straight answer. Jerk. He began frosting the cakes again.
Birthday birthday birthday oh my gosh how totally awesome birthday yay!! She ran to Devin's house, so excited about spending her birthday with her two best friends that she almost forgot to open the door when she ran into it. This resulted in a loud thud followed by the door slamming open with a very exuberant Danielle behind it.
"Devin Darren happy birthday oh my gosh hiiii~!!" she called out, happily.
Devin nearly messed up the frosting on the last cake. "Awha--Danielle?!" He put down the frosting again and rushed to the door. "DANIELLE! Hi! So glad you're here! What was...that noise?"
"Hiii Devin," she said, rubbing her forehead and trying to pretend that she hadn't just rammed it into the door. Hopefully it wouldn't bruise, she hadn't hit it that hard. "I totally slammed the door so uh I guess that's like what you heard for sure!" Totally wasn't her running into the door, for sure, seriously!
When she saw Darren, she leapt up onto the couch beside him, and tackled him with a hug. "HIIII DARREN~!" she greeted, loudly. She hadn't seen him in a while! She was happy and excited and oh my gosh yay! "Happy birthday!"
His eyes widened in slight surprise at the sudden attack as he pressed a hand against the couch to keep from being knocked over. "Ah. Happy birthday to you too." It was amazing how loud the two of them were. It was a wonder they weren't siblings. "How has yours been so far?"
Danielle had been loud her whole life. Darren should be used to it by now.
She released him, sitting back, smiling broadly at him. "Totally awesome so far for sure and like I totally get to spend the day with my two best friends ever it's totally the best birthday ever for sure!"
"Does anyone have any plans or ideas for today?" Devin asked as he bent to scoop up the dishes into his hands. He also took in his plate of unfinished cake. Maybe he'd finish it later.
Danielle tilted her head to the side, thinking for a moment. "I totally just like, wanna spend my birthday with my two best friends," she said finally, with a broad grin.
"Ah, oka--HEY!" Devin turned to glare at Darren, and saw him already working on finishing the cake. "What the--What the hell are you doing!? You jerk! What the hell!?"
"Gah, you!" He swiped the empty plate from Darren and took them into the kitchen, placing them in the sink. "The Monster Museum, huh? That sounds neat," he remarked as he started washing the dishes.
Before getting his hands soapy, Devin threw the dishcloth at Darren. "You're drying dishes!"
"It's right next to the academy," Devin answered, rinsing one plate and handing it over to the other boy. "It'll probably take fifteen minutes to walk there."
Danielle stood to walk into the kitchen with them, tucking the cat under her arm. "So are we like gonna go then?" she asked, tilting her head to the side as she stood in the center of the kitchen, watching them do the dishes.
